About

Michael Nsengiyumva built Phase Diagram Explorer to make binary phase diagrams something you can interrogate rather than just read. Instead of tracing a static textbook figure with a ruler, you set a composition and a temperature and watch the phase fields, boundaries and phase fractions respond immediately in the browser.

The tool covers the three classic binary systems taught in materials science: an isomorphous system (Cu–Ni inspired), a eutectic system (Al–Si inspired) and a peritectic system (Fe-rich inspired). Each one is drawn with shaded phase regions, liquidus, solidus and solvus boundaries, and a hover probe that names the phase at any point on the diagram.

Beyond the diagrams themselves, Michael Nsengiyumva added the features that turn a picture into a working calculation: tie-line estimates with lever-rule phase fractions, a cooling animation that walks a composition down through its transformations, adjustable zoom for crowded regions, and one-click Excel export of the cooling-path data so results can be carried into a report or a spreadsheet. It is aimed at students and engineers who want fast, hands-on intuition for solidification behaviour.
